Internship

Thank you for your interest in HPAF.  The internship program allows you the opportunity to work within a horse welfare organization.  You will work along side staff and volunteers in the day-to-day operation.

Daily chores include cleaning stalls, picking up manure from the paddocks, scrubbing buckets and raking.  Horses also need to be groomed, bathed, and treated.  Homeopathy is done under the direction of Gerald Wessner, VMD.  Interns will learn homeopathy and holistic health care for animals.

HPAF utilizes natural horsemanship in the daily handling of the horses.  You will have the opportunity to become familiar with natural horsemanship and learn how to create a better relationship with each horse you come in contact with.  The extent to which you will handle individual horses depends on your ability and desire to learn.  More advanced students may be able to work with green or young horses.

Cruelty investigations are a part of HPAF.  We never know if a cruelty situation will come up in any given time frame, so this may or may not be an experience during your stay at the farm.

Students must provide their own transportation, insurance and bring their own funds for food and necessities.  Accommodations available.

This internship consists of hard, outdoor work, and is physically demanding.  Expect to work long hours, however in the summertime we do not work from 1-4 PM because of the extreme heat.  A typical summer day would be 7 AM to 1 PM and 5 PM to 8 PM.

To be considered for an internship please send your resume to morgan@hpaf.org.  Tell us why you would like to work with HPAF, about your interest in horses, animal welfare, natural horsemanship, holistic health care, and anything else that you feel would help us get to know you better.  Tell us what dates you are interested in and how long of a commitment you are willing to make.  Minimum stay is two weeks.

After receiving your information, we will contact you and schedule a phone interview.
