Legacy for the Horses
HPAF’s Legacy for the Horses was established to express gratitude to members who have made a commitment through a bequest. By including HPAF in your estate plans, you can leave a legacy memorializing a lifetime of compassion for horses.
HPAF’s investigations, rescue efforts and education programs work together to create a more humane future for horses - and through a planned gift to HPAF, you can guarantee that your voice for horses carries on, until horses are protected from abuse forever.
Your Bequest to HPAF
Preparing a will is important to do today because it ensures that your assets are passed on according to your wishes. A will is a legal document, and you will need to consult a lawyer in drawing and modifying your will. Every state has specific procedures for wills and the distribution of estates that must be followed or your will could be deemed invalid. Without a will, or if your will is invalid, your property and life savings will be distributed according to the laws of your state and without regard to your dreams or goals for a better world.
Your charitable bequest can be (i) a fixed dollar amount; (ii) specific property such as real estate (e.g., residences, farms, unimproved land), stock or personal property; (iii) a percentage of your total estate or (iv) the residual of your estate after other bequests are paid.
In addition to a bequest in your will, you can also designate HPAF as a beneficiary in your life insurance policy, your retirement account (individual retirement accounts, pension plans, 401(k) plans) and your ban or brokerage accounts (saving accounts, certificates of deposit, money market accounts).
Legal Designation
Your attorney may wish to use the following language when making a bequest to HPAF:
"I give, devise, and bequeath to Horse Protection Association of Florida, Inc., Federal Tax Identification Number 65-0191969, 20690 NW 130th Ave., Micanopy, FL 32667 the sum of: $________________ (or describe the real or personal property or portion of the estate) to be used for its general purposes."
